The Mercury Technological Centre offers scientific and technological support to the institutions and organisations in subjects related to mercury. In this way the Centre received the visit of a Government Delegation from Kyrgyz Republic.
Khairdarkan Mercury Mining, in the southern of Kyrgyz, it is now only one known mercury mine in the world which continues opened and selling its output abroad.
The study-visit as part of the project of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) entitled "Global and Local environmental Reducing Risks from primary mercury mining in Khaidarkan, Kyrgyz Republic". The study-visit consisted of the visit to the old mines of Slovenia and Spain in order to learn from experience in closing and environmental recovery this type of mining.
The main objective of the visit was the exchange experiences on remediation of mercury contaminated sites, such as the restoration of the dump of the Cerco de San Teodoro, in Almadén.
The visit also included an interview with the Mayor from Almadén in order to know all the social aspects about the closing of the mine and metallurgy activities in Almadén.
